An evergreen shrub with prickly, needle like leaves. In winter and spring a profusion of yellow, spider like flowers appear. It is a highly variable species that is great for use as a low hedge, windbreak, or screening plant. The flowers attract nectar feeding birds and the prickly foliage provides shelter for smaller birds. Tolerates extended dry periods and light frosts.
