Blueberries are mainly deciduous shrubs with oval leaves, plants produce pretty white bell shaped flowers in spring. Fruit is produced in summer and the leaves take on attractive red orange tones in autumn. Berries are best left to ripen on the bush, bird netting may be required and the berries once picked can be eaten fresh, frozen or made into jam, jelly, juice or used in cooking cakes, cheesecakes, tarts, muffins and various delicious sweets.
Drought tolerant once established and frost hardy. Prune to remove tips and weak shoots in winter. Feed in spring with fowl manure or a low rate of complete fertiliser.
