A hardy, evergreen shrub with large, glossy, green leaves. In winter new foliage is bright, crimson red. In spring clusters of white flowers are borne followed by blue-black berries. Useful as either a short or tall hedge. Phoitinia is also an ideal plant for windbreaks.

Water regularly after planting until established. Mulch well to suppress weeds and reduce soil water loss.

Cultivate soil before planting. Dig hole twice the width of container. Remove plant from container and place into the hole so the soil level is the same as the surrounding ground. Fill hole firmly and water in well even if the soil is moist.
