A medium sized deciduous shrub to small growing tree; growing to around 5m. Very hardy and will tolerate very low to very high temperatures. Double red flowers appear in early summer followed by fruit that will take 5-7 months o mature. Fruit should not be picked until ripe. The fruit is orange to red coloured and full of a seedy pulp. It is a rich source of vitamin C and antioxidants. Fruits may be used for sauces, jellies, cakes, or eaten off the tree. The seeds are great used as a garnish.
