This small, compact deciduous shrub is a fruitful addition to the garden. 'Captivator' is self pollinating and has been selected as it is almost thorn-less. The transparent fruit ripens in late spring to early summer and turns a pink to red colour when fully ripe. The fruit has a sharp flavour but 'Captivator' is sweeter than most gooseberries. Fruit is great stewed or used in pies and other deserts with sugar and honey added to cut through the sharp taste.
